Katrina Kittle was one of my very first guests on Book Club Girl on Air, when she joined me in 2008 to discuss her novel, The Kindness of Strangers, and I'm so excited to welcome her back on August 26th to discuss her new novel, The Blessings of the Animals which is on sale on Tuesday, August 3rd. As you may have read in my ALA post, I finished the book about a month ago and just loved it.
The Blessings of the Animals tells the story of Cami Anderson, a veteranarian who is married with a teenage daughter who wakes up one morning to find out that her husband is leaving her. As she struggles to come to grips with this revelation, she is also caring for various injured, and abused, animals, including a horse that has been severely mistreated and who comes under her care. She also finds herself looking at the other couples in her life - her own parents, her gay brother and his husband, and a friend who is newly engaged - and reflecting on both her own marriage, and the state of marriage itself in this novel that will you have you thinking and talking for a long time.
Sara Gruen, the New York Times bestselling author of Water for Elephants calls Blessings of the Animals, “[A] beautifully crafted novel….A must-read not only for animal lovers, but for anyone who has found the courage to come back from heartbreak and find love again, without reservation, without fear.”
I have 10 copies of The Blessings of the Animals to give to the first 10 people who comment that they'd like to participate in the show on August 26th at 7 pm ET. Check out the reading group guide for the book, look for Katrina on tour near you, visit her site, become a fan on Facebook, follow her on Twitter and set your reminder for the show!
