The New Yorker Launches Monthly Book Club with Revolutionary Road

Today the The New Yorker officially launched a monthly book club billed as an "ongoing collaboration between our editors our writers, and our audience." They promise that the selections will be "eclectic but will share one main criterion-- they resist easy answers." The selection for February is Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road. Seems like a good choice as we head into Oscar weekend, where the film adaptation of RR is up for several awards. Book Club Girl Loves Award Shows

And I mean, I really, really love them. If I can wangle it with the kids and my very understanding husband, I'll be watching Red Carpet coverage of the Golden Globes as early as possible tomorrow. I had hoped we'd be snowed in as well, which would add to the coziness of the entire affair, but so far I've only seen a few flakes in the air. My book group has talked about reading a book and watching an adaptation, but so far we haven't done it. I think our best bet might be once the film is out on DVD. Revolutionary Road Opened Today

As you're pondering what movies to see this holiday week, consider Sam Mendes' adaptation of Richard Yates' novel Revolutionary Road, which opened today. Revolutionary Road has long been on my bedside table TBR pile, and its themes are ripe for any book club. Maybe get together with your group this week for a matinee?
