Wow, I'm just back from the most magical evening spent watching Meryl Streep impersonate Julia Child and Amy Adams charm as Julie Powell in Julie & Julia. I loved, loved, loved this movie and now want to run out and read not only Julie and Julia, by Julie Powell, but also My Life in France, by Julia Child. The movie is based on both books and plays midwife to one of the most important cookbooks of our time, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I dare anyone to see this movie and not be charmed. And I am so interested to find out more about Julia's and her husband's Paul's lives (I'm a sucker for Stanley Tucci). I left the theater wanting to drink red wine, eat good bread with unsalted butter and cook! My friend and I talked about putting on a dinner party where each of us has to make a different dish from Mastering and bring it to the dinner. I see the following under many Christmas trees this December -- Julie & Julia, My Life in France, and Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I can't wait to wrap them up for my sister! (er, hope you're not reading this sis...)
