I heard from the lovely Nancy Pearl of Book Lust and Seattle Public Library fame today. She told me about a trip she took this past spring to Mankato, MN, which is known to those Betsy-Tacy fans among us as Deep Valley, MN, home of Betsy Ray, Tacy Kelly, Carney Sibley and the rest of their families and the Gang. She was the guest of the Betsy-Tacy Society who treated her to "lunch at Tacy's house and took me on a tour of all the sites. I saw Carney's house, with its sleeping porch, and the slough and where the Syrians lived [for more on that, read Emily of Deep Valley]. Here is a picture of Betsy's house that I took from Tacy's porch -- note the snow, in April!!!"
I opened the photo she attached with glee and share it here -- it really does look like the little yellow Ray cottage where the family lived up until Betsy started high school. My sister and I must make this pilgrimage some day. Unlike Anne of Green Gables, which, you may recall, I resisted as a child, Betsy-Tacy is a series we both grew up with and love (and quote from liberally much to the irritation of the rest of our family). Thank you Nancy, for sharing with us!
