Just a reminder that tomorrow night, Monday, February 4th, we are welcoming back Jennifer
Haigh to Book Club Girl on Air to discuss her interconnected short story
collection, News from Heaven. Check out the reading group guide before the show, and if you haven’t
read it already, start here with an excerpt. During
the live show you can send in questions via the chat function (be sure to register
on the site beforehand - choose the free option) or you can call in and ask Jennifer
a question directly by dialing 347-945-6149. Set your reminder for tomorrow night's show at 7 pm ET here and
return to that same link to listen live tomorrow night!

Will this be archived if we can't tune in at 7?

I will not have internet at home to listen tonight, but I have some questions for Jennifer.
What makes you decide to write a set of short stories rather than one novel? Do you think there are different types of readers that gravitate to short stories vs. novels? I have read The Condition and also (obviously) this book. I think I gravitate more towards novels so that I can spend more time with the characters.
I grew up in western Pennsylvania and my grandmother lived for a short time in a mining town. I thought you were spot on in the descriptions of the town! I also remember as a kid, my grandmother getting the Pennsylvania blocks of cheese! You had to grow up in my neck of the woods - - OMG, I just googled you and I also grew up in Cambria County!! I was born and raised in Johnstown and my grandmother was in a mining town outside of Somerset. What a small world.
What are you working on next?
