She would not be able to have a book set Nashville since she knows it too well. She would be obsessed with the details being correct.

Ellie

The theme of the novel is political and decisions we make are very political. thanks for this giveaway.

Melissa C.

I liked what she had to say about readers and their own perspectives when they read a novel. That those opinions are ok, even though they may not be shared by others.

I also liked that she said just about everything we do in our lives today can be political in nature (from how long we shower, to the cars we drive, etc).

Thanks so much for the giveaway.

Jessica

I liked the reflection that all of our choices are political. How true that is!

Kelly

I love all her novels, Run included. This was therefore one of my favorite author interviews that you all have done.I enjoyed learning her thinking behind the novel and that she is a details gal. Crossing fingers and toes that you pick my comment!

Andria

What a great giveaway and interview. I never realized how politics plays such a key role in all the choices we make in our lives.

State of Wonder has been on my reading list for a while. Fingers-crossed you pick me!

Janet Best

I enjoyed this interview so much and have learned many things from listening. I appreciated that Ann said our families are not defined by blood and agree that our "family tree" branches much further out than that. I didn't realize until I heard the interview that it took Ann so long to write Run.
I also was intrigued by learning about Ann's process in writing the book.

Thanks so much for the wonderful interview and giveaway!

Poof Books

Have never read any of her novels, but liked the buzz on STATE OF WONDER and now there is RAIN. Family vs political novel, the novel can go either way and both would be correct according to the author.

Given STATE OF WONDER and her comments on RAIN she must have a fondness for science and scientists. Currently, I am working with scientists developing something with possible commercial interest so STATE OF WONDER is certainly up my alley right now.

I liked the notion that novels past she would not right now. They stand at the time they are written but might not as her life evolves. This is most interesting to me.

LISTEN NOW TO AUTHORS DISCUSSING THEIR BOOKS

Who is Book Club Girl?

  • Book Club Girl is: a member of a book club and an avid reader who spent most of her childhood immersed in a book, an English major who considered library school until she realized it was all about computers, so turned to publishing, where she now works (but she vows to talk about books from all over and not to simply flog those from her own house). She was single, lived in the city, met a man, moved to the 'burbs, and is now a wife, a stepmother, a mother, and in her spare time, a fledgling blogger dedicated to sharing great books, news and tips with book club girls everywhere.

My Review Policy

  • I review fiction and nonfiction that is appropriate for book clubs. This includes literary and some women's commercial fiction as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction. I do not review self-help, thrillers, mysteries, horror, or fantasy. I have a fondness for YA literature and while the blog is not devoted to it (well, except for my obsession with the Betsy-Tacy series), I will occasionally review some YA books. The best way to reach me to request a review is to email me at bookclubgirl AT gmail DOT com.
