I love today's guest post from my colleague Tavia because, well, I love Rear Window, and re-watching it this weekend (not to mention the wine and the chocolate) sounds just about perfect to me. Find out why this is Tavia's weekend plan.
Perhaps you live in one of the many parts of the country that are being hit with harsh and odd weather (ice storms, record-breaking sub-zero temperatures), and therefore it is not so difficult to persuade you to stay tucked inside this weekend. I know I’m not going outside this weekend unless it’s to restock on red wine and chocolate. My plans bring back memories of the Books and Film lit class I took in college: I’ll be re-reading The Girl in the Green Raincoat by Laura Lippman, and watching Hitchcock’s Rear Window. Both are in preparation for the conversation with Laura on “Book Club Girl On Air” this coming Tuesday at 2:30 PM EST. (Why the afternoon time slot, you ask? Well, you’ll have to tune in to find out! And no, we aren’t using a mediator to get Hitchcock to dial-in, too.)
How many of you have seen Rear Window? I have, but not in years, and I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with James Stewart this Saturday night. If any of you are really feeling meta, you might want to also read the classic The Daughter of Time, which is called “a comfort read” by Laura’s main character, P.I. Tess Monaghan. I know that at least one mystery book club out there is reading both books together this month—maybe yours will, too?
Browse inside The Girl in the Green Raincoat, check out the reading group guide, and become a fan of Laura on Facebook. Set a reminder for the show here and return to that same link to listen live on Tuesday afternoon!

I love Rear Window, absolutely love it. Now I totally want to read both The Daughter of Time and The Girl in the Green Raincoat. I missed the giveaway and haven't been able to get a copy yet but I'm still going to listen on Tuesday.
Have fun watching Rear Window, Grace Kelly is just about as beautiful and any one human being can be in that movie and her clothes are amazing. For that alone it would be worth it but it's a great movie too.

Hitchcock and/or a great book == the perfect way to ride out a winter storm!
I'll have kids home on Tuesday afternoon, but will try to tune in ... curious about the interview and the reason for the afternoon scheduling!

Ignorance is an evil weed, which dictators may cultivate among their dupes, but which no democracy can afford among its citizens.
