Amy @ My Friend Amy

oh my gosh!!!!!!! This is the coolest thing ever! :)

OMG, I can't believe there was a LauraPalooza and I MISSED IT! And there was a spelling bee -- I am a huge spelling bee geek!

So very sad. Will there be another one next year?

bermudaonion (Kathy)

What a fun event! Congratulations to Erin for winning the spelling bee!

Katie @ cakes, tea and dreams

Love this! I'm a spelling bee geek too...and I love Laura...and I love Erin's blog! What a magical combination. :)

My parents just took several of the grandchildren to DeSmet, and the other set of grandchildren heard how much fun it was so they are going in a few weeks. According to Mom's report it's a wonderful way to spend the day. It wasn't that built up when I went as a child. I've also been to the dugout on the banks of Plum Creek. Very thankful I gre up in the midwest and had so many opportunities.

Right now we planning to hold another Laurapalooza in July 2012. Start planning to attend now.

Sarah, are you planning to hold the next Laurapalooza in Mankato as well?

I like her supposed obsession with hats ;)

Erin Blakemore

Thanks everyone, you're so sweet!

Jen, the next event will be held in Mankato at the University of Minnesota like this one...the spot's already been reserved.

Mimi, the cover of Pamela Smith Hill's excellent Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Write's Life features a rad picture of LIW in a hat:

Yes, we are planning on it being in Mankato. Amy Lauters (who wrote The Rediscovered Writings of Rose Wilder Lane) is on the faculty there which facilitated greatly our being able to do a conference on the scale we wanted. So we'll be back in Mankato. :-)

Who is Book Club Girl?

  • Book Club Girl is: a member of a book club and an avid reader who spent most of her childhood immersed in a book, an English major who considered library school until she realized it was all about computers, so turned to publishing, where she now works (but she vows to talk about books from all over and not to simply flog those from her own house). She was single, lived in the city, met a man, moved to the 'burbs, and is now a wife, a stepmother, a mother, and in her spare time, a fledgling blogger dedicated to sharing great books, news and tips with book club girls everywhere.

My Review Policy

  • I review fiction and nonfiction that is appropriate for book clubs. This includes literary and some women's commercial fiction as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction. I do not review self-help, thrillers, mysteries, horror, or fantasy. I have a fondness for YA literature and while the blog is not devoted to it (well, except for my obsession with the Betsy-Tacy series), I will occasionally review some YA books. The best way to reach me to request a review is to email me at bookclubgirl AT gmail DOT com.
