Alice in Wonderland has been close to my heart ever since I visited Oxford and saw the actual tree that Alice fell asleep under. The real Alice grew up in Oxford, and the town is full of Alice history, including the sweet shop that Alice used to frequent. There is also the only surviving skeleton of a Dodo bird in the museum there! I love the intersection of history and fantasy that Alice in Wonderland represents for me.

I love how you can read Alice when you are a child and then as an adult, and it morphs into a completely different story. Classic.

Ro

Alice is one of the coolest girl characters ever.

Heather

I love it because of Alice's fantastical adventure and it's a story that can be enjoyed by kids and adults. I am looking forward so much to the movie!

Hi Jen,
Like everyone else on here, I'd love to be one of the 3 lucky winners! I have always found a friend in Alice for like her I often see the world quite opposite than others and at times it takes me a while to readjust my vision to see something the "right" way : }
Thanks so much for all you do for us eager readers!

I love Alice in Wonderland for so many different reasons. All of the characters are memorable and the setting is pure fun. That pretty much sums it up.

I've always loved Alice in Wonderland. As a little girl, I would listen to the story over and over again on a portable record player that my grandfather had given me. I remember falling down the hole right along with Alice and getting lost in all the wonders of Wonderland. To this day, it's still my favorite story!

I have always loved alice in wonderland....probably because I love things that are different and that involve fantasy....just love the story!

Barbara

Always loved Alice. I received two marionettes, one of Alice and one of the Mad Hatter, on Christmas Day when I was nine years old! I had them through college. Alas, when my childhood home was sold and I was helping to pack the house, my puppets were AWOL. I still have fond memories of them and the play and imagination Alice (both book and puppet) brought me. Please enter me -- I would love to win any of the prizes. Thanks

I love Alice in Wonderland because it introduced me to the fabulous world of fantasy.

(One of the reason) I love Alice in Wonderland is I remember my father reading it to me and then talking about it with him. It is one of the first books I remember "discussing."

I really love Alice. It's intersesting and fun and the crazy characters are great!!

My first fascination with Alice in Wonderland started when I was a little girl. My mother's name was Alice and I thought that was so cool that she was also an Alice! My mother is no longer living but everytime I see something about Alice in Wonderland I think of my mother. I'd love to win this for my little granddaughter and introduce her to Alice in Wonderland.

Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite Disney selected titles; as a child, it was that one vhs that got watched over and over again, to the point of almost damaging the quality of the movie. Those fantastic, absurd creatures, the nonsensical yet wise dialogue, the intriguing beauty of the place so close yet so far from this world... how could a child resist? The interest sparked by the movie only grew when I started reading the original novel. Since then, I've been drawn to themes centred aroud his famous tale, and have decorated my room in a similar fashion. I still have that tape... now I'm planning to show it to my niece, and see if it sparks an interest in her.

What an awesome contest, and great prizes! I love Alice in Wonderland because, well, Alice is so full of awe of the world around her; Wonderland is an amazing place we all go to when we hold a book; it's my boyfriend's favorite book and there's always a joy in bending our heads close to his illustrated copies and going, "Whoa!"

Joanna

I love Alice because she inspires imagination in us all -- both adult and child. Thanks for this opportunity to win an amazing book-related prize!

phxbne

I love the whimsy of the characters

Stephanie C.

I've always loved the fantastic story of Alice in Wonderland as a kid. I really should revisit and read it as an adult now!

Jen M

I love Alice in Wonderland all over again reading it with my 11 year old daughter, it's so fun to rediscover a classic through those fresh eyes!

Dawn - She is Too Fond of Books

I've been drooling over this new book since I saw the first teaser about it. My sister is a HUGE fan/collector of Alice in Wonderland memorabilia; she would be thrilled if I won this and gave it to her.

    Who is Book Club Girl?

    • Book Club Girl is: a member of a book club and an avid reader who spent most of her childhood immersed in a book, an English major who considered library school until she realized it was all about computers, so turned to publishing, where she now works (but she vows to talk about books from all over and not to simply flog those from her own house). She was single, lived in the city, met a man, moved to the 'burbs, and is now a wife, a stepmother, a mother, and in her spare time, a fledgling blogger dedicated to sharing great books, news and tips with book club girls everywhere.

    My Review Policy

    • I review fiction and nonfiction that is appropriate for book clubs. This includes literary and some women's commercial fiction as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction. I do not review self-help, thrillers, mysteries, horror, or fantasy. I have a fondness for YA literature and while the blog is not devoted to it (well, except for my obsession with the Betsy-Tacy series), I will occasionally review some YA books. The best way to reach me to request a review is to email me at bookclubgirl AT gmail DOT com.
