Robin Antalek's debut novel The Summer We Fell Apart, about a large complicated family who learns to love again despite devastating loss, goes on sale tomorrow and I'm thrilled that she'll be joining us on Book Club Girl on Air to discuss the book on Monday, January 25th at 7 pm ET! Publishers Weekly called The Summer We Fell Apart “a well-crafted and cunning debut novel…a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.”

You can browse inside the book now and the first 10 people to comment that they'd like to participate in the show on the 25th will receive a free copy of the book to read in preparation for the show! You may recall Robin's beautiful essay on the children's book that inspired her family's holiday tradition from my Holiday Open House last month. Set your reminder for the show, check out the reading group guide and look for Robin on tour near you.

I really enjoyed this story. I read and reviewed in September 2008 when people were were still hesitant about it. I recommended it as one not to miss and a week later Oprah announced it as her new pick. That felt good. If I am free that evening I will definitely join you for this interview.

Who is Book Club Girl?

Book Club Girl is: a member of a book club and an avid reader who spent most of her childhood immersed in a book, an English major who considered library school until she realized it was all about computers, so turned to publishing, where she now works (but she vows to talk about books from all over and not to simply flog those from her own house). She was single, lived in the city, met a man, moved to the 'burbs, and is now a wife, a stepmother, a mother, and in her spare time, a fledgling blogger dedicated to sharing great books, news and tips with book club girls everywhere.

My Review Policy

I review fiction and nonfiction that is appropriate for book clubs. This includes literary and some women's commercial fiction as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction. I do not review self-help, thrillers, mysteries, horror, or fantasy. I have a fondness for YA literature and while the blog is not devoted to it (well, except for my obsession with the Betsy-Tacy series), I will occasionally review some YA books.
