LOL--only a Yankees fan would think nine years was a "long" nine years. I'm not much of a Yankees fan (ok, not at all) but I do have to cheer for them whenever Joba Chamberlin is pitching since he's from Nebraska. But Rivera is the Yankee that really blew me away.

I know, I realize complaining about nine years is the very height of arrogance, but what can I say. My husband is relieved because I've been holding it over his head that since we met, my Yankees have not won a championship (he's not a fan at all). So now, that curse is broken, and our marriage is safe. ;)
I like Joba too, and I still feel badly for that midge attack in Cleveland. And Mariano, what can one say, he's simply stupendous.

How could a born New Englander and therefore a Red Sox fan celebrate anything Yankees. FOR SHAME!!!!

Well, to clarify, I am not a born New Englander. I was born in NY state and was unceremoniously uprooted and moved to NH at the age of 5. And for the entire time that I lived in NE (be it NH, or VT for college), I was a Yankees fan. I even attended Red Sox games wearing a Yankee hat. The only thing that kept me from getting beat up was, I assume, the fact that at the time I was a 12 year old girl. So in fact, I have been a Yankees fan from birth, and I shall be one until the day I die.
And yes, this drives my mother and sister absolutely crazy.

I was going to say the same thing as Lisa! Only nine years. Try 100+ years between championships. Ok, I'm a Red Sox fan, and can't stand the Yankees, so I'm biased!
