Tomorrow marks the start of the First Independent Bookstore Week in NYC, designed to celebrate and support the independent booksellers of the city, stores that help to make New York the great city that it is. I should be in NYC later this evening, and maybe I'll have time to stop by Word, the awesome bookstore in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, or the new Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene. Later this week, I'll visit McNally Jackson in downtown Manhattan, but until then, I'll do my part by shopping at my local bookstore here in Maplewood, NJ, Words, which is still relatively new to our town. Maybe I'll pick up a book for the 5th birthday party my son was just invited to, or a few for my baby girl who turns one in just a few weeks. I'm also starting a mental list of the books I need to get for friends and family for Christmas this year. So shop at your local independent, and in so doing, support your community!
