What a terrific discussion we had tonight with Lily Koppel about The Red Leather Diary. And as an added treat, Florence Wolfson, author of the original red leather diary that Lily discovered and started her on her quest, called in to answer our questions! That was amazing. Yay for summer book reading! I'm excited - I'm even thinking of starting my very own book club.Kind of off-topic, but I signed up for this Netflix-of-books type thing called BookSwim and it's the best thing I've done in this darn recession. Curious, have you ever taken a stab at renting books?? Do you have thoughts on it?

I'm so glad you all enjoyed it, I felt like we had a celebrity on the line when Florence called in! Now I want multiple guests every time!

Andrea, I've never rented books, but would love to hear about your experience of it and how it works, and what you think of it!

Jennifer, I just had the chance to listen to the chat and it was absolutely awesome! It was great listening to Lily's personal feelings on finding the diary and getting it written. Wow, what a treat to have Florence call in! She was just amazing and she sounds so sweet. I think it's so great that this diary has brought her recognition and happiness at this time in her life. Thanks for a great show once again Jennifer!

Who is Book Club Girl?

  • Book Club Girl is: a member of a book club and an avid reader who spent most of her childhood immersed in a book, an English major who considered library school until she realized it was all about computers, so turned to publishing, where she now works (but she vows to talk about books from all over and not to simply flog those from her own house). She was single, lived in the city, met a man, moved to the 'burbs, and is now a wife, a stepmother, a mother, and in her spare time, a fledgling blogger dedicated to sharing great books, news and tips with book club girls everywhere.

My Review Policy

  • I review fiction and nonfiction that is appropriate for book clubs. This includes literary and some women's commercial fiction as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction. I do not review self-help, thrillers, mysteries, horror, or fantasy. I have a fondness for YA literature and while the blog is not devoted to it (well, except for my obsession with the Betsy-Tacy series), I will occasionally review some YA books.
