Nice to read some good news in the paper this morning for a change! The National Endowment for the Arts released a report that shows that fiction reading is up in the nation, for the first time since they began conducting the survey in 1982. The most notable increases were among young adults and Hispanic-Americans. No doubt the pervasive influence of book groups has helped contribute to this increase, along with the NEA's own The Big Read program, which helps fund community-wide reading programs in cities across the country. To find a Big Read program near you, check out this map on their website. Read the New York Times article about the report here, and the NEA's findings here.

Oh, this is such great news! Thanks for the links. (Actually I just discovered your blog, and I'm hooked. It's bookmarked now.)
