And I mean, I really, really love them. If I can wangle it with the kids and my very understanding husband, I'll be watching Red Carpet coverage of the Golden Globes as early as possible tomorrow. I had hoped we'd be snowed in as well, which would add to the coziness of the entire affair, but so far I've only seen a few flakes in the air. My book group has talked about reading a book and watching an adaptation, but so far we haven't done it. I think our best bet might be once the film is out on DVD. Read on/watch for this year's Golden Globe nominated movies based on books:
The Reader
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Revolutionary Road
Frost/Nixon
Cranford
John Adams
A Raisin in the Sun

I adore award shows as well. Well, the red carpet coverage in particular. For the Oscars, I make food all day in anticipation of the event.
My book club has done the movie/book meeting before and it was a lot of fun. It's easier to do when the movie it out on DVD though. We never seem to be able to time it right for the movie to be on the big screen. We are looking forward to The Road but now I heard it may go straight to video. That would be a shame.

I love awards shows too, especially the Oscars. I never understand the people who complain they're too long. My book/movie pairing suggestion would be "The Orchid Thief" and "Adaptation." I love the movie "Adaptation," and it would certainly spark discussion in relation to the book it was supposed to be based on.

I very much appreciated how Tom Hanks, Kate Winslet and Danny Boyle gave shout outs to the books on which their films were based. Kudos.

I didn't know "Slumdog Millionaire" was based on a novel until the writer won and mentioned it! Glad to know I wasn't the only one who made that mistake.

If you have a chance to see Slum dog Millionaire, go see it. A Indian young man plays the Game you want to be a millionaire. Each question is asked, and each time the young man flashes back to his life from the question he is asked. You won't be sorry to see this. I have never seen a movie or read a book this way. It was so different I loved again. I can't rave enough about it.
