The first 10 people to comment on this post will receive a complimentary copy of the book to read before the show! (giveaway open to residents of the US and Canada only). Please join us on Tuesday, January 27th at 7 pm EST when our guest on Book Club Girl on Air will be New York Times bestselling author Wally Lamb. We'll discuss his latest novel, The Hour I First Believed.
In The Hour I First Believed, Lamb tells the story of forty-seven-year-old high school teacher Caelum Quirk and his younger wife, Maureen, a school nurse, who move to Littleton, Colorado, and get jobs at Columbine High School. In April 1999, Caelum returns home to Three Rivers, Connecticut, to be with his aunt who has just had a stroke. But Maureen finds herself in the school library at Columbine, cowering in a cabinet and expecting to be killed, as two vengeful students go on a carefully premeditated, murderous rampage. Miraculously she survives, but at a cost: she is unable to recover from the trauma. Caelum and Maureen flee Colorado and return to an illusion of safety at the Quirk family farm in Three Rivers. But the effects of chaos are not so easily put right, and further tragedy ensues in this extraordinary tour de force, at once a meditation on the human condition and an unflinching yet compassionate evocation of character.
This discussion with Lamb, who is a huge reading group favorite, will be amazing so don’t miss it. Set a reminder for the show here. Browse Inside the book here.

I just finished this book and loved it. I read it in only a couple of days, I couldn't put it down. I am a public librarian; I request titles when I read the reviews and when they come in I pick them up and start reading. I was not put off by the subject of Columbine. The family histories, marriage dynamics and the unpredictablity of the people that affect our lives all spoke to me. I loved Lambs other two books as well! Great job.

I'd like to be part of this as well, if there are enough copies to go around (I know some commenters may have already read the book.) Thanks for the chance!

I think I'm too late ... :-( I really like Wally Lamb, although it has been a while since I've read one of his books. This one sounds great!

I'd love to finally read one of his novels. Looks like I'm too late for a copy but I'll try for a library copy and listen to the broadcast anyway. I've heard three of your interviews now and they are very enjoyable.

OK, in case the last five people don't respond to the email that they won the book ... I'll put myself on the "wait list".
Most likely, I'll listen in anyway!
