While I was at Book Group Expo, I had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn Herbert, creator of Book Club in a Box. Marilyn Herbert is the creator of Bookclub-in-a-Box. She has had extensive experience as a teacher, librarian, a discussion leader and presenter. She loves reading and figuring out how a novel works and wants to share her enthusiasm with others. Here she tells us about BCIAB -- NR.
Bookclub-in-a-Box was created to give readers support, encouragement and fun when talking about books. To that end, we produce in-depth discussion guides for contemporary and classic fiction designed for all kinds of discussions: book group, classroom and library. We like to be interactive. Our thoughts are meant to spark other thoughts and ideas, and so there is room for additional notes. The guides are easy to use, enjoyable to read, and affordable.
Each guide is devoted to a particular novel and includes a number of things: for example, interesting information about the author and background of the book, our perspective on the author’s themes and writing style, a breakdown of the characters and how they reflect the themes, and more. We even have a selection of relevant quotes to take you back through the story without re-reading the book a second time.
In addition to providing a guide to the novel, we are also available to help with book club set ups, questions and problems.

I'm glad you mentioned this resource. Marilyn runs a wonderful site and I've used it several times for my book club. I highly recommend it!

My girlfriends and I did something similar, but we call it "Book in a Bag". We decided to explore different authors and books together and it has been a blast! Right now we are on "The Silent Note" by Patrick Davis. We all agree the book is unique, because it launches an original idea; the secret romance concealed within the old piano went untouched for decades.
