While I was very sad to miss my book group meeting last week (Back to School night at the middle school), I was so happy to hear that we chose as our next book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I first wrote about here. I'm excited to read this book as it sounds really wonderful and I've already confessed my love of the epistolary form. Read an excerpt, check out the reading group guide, visit the website and see co-author Annie Barrows talking about the book in the video below:

I am dying to read this one! I can't wait to hear what you think!

I'm in the middle of it now and it is delightful! I was afraid it was being 'oversold' so perhaps I wasn't expecting much. It's an easy and enjoyable read so fare with really accessible characters. I'll look forward to seeing what you think.. :)

Thanks for the video - I hadn't seen it yet. It definitely explains the book for me! I've been hearing about it for a while now, but this was very helpful.

Oh Jen,
That is a great pick!!!! When you announced it Wednesday night I couldn't understand what you said and so I have been waiting for this post to see what our next read was to be. I have tried to request this book from the library and the wait list is so long ...like to long!!!!
Do you have copies for your group members??? I sure hope so and please count me in!!!

I reviewed this in August and I loved the book myself. I usually give away my ARCs but this one is a keeper.
My review is here if it interests anyone:http://freshinkbooks.blogspot.com/2008/08/guernsey-literary-and-potato-peel-pie.html
And I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

Jen,
My mistake....this is for your hometown book club, sorry...in my excitement of seeing your new post I just automatically thought you were writing about our next read for the on-line book club and author chat! I still want to read this book and am still eagerly awaiting your post on our next book.
Thanks
Darby

Sorry about that Darby! I'll post more info on my next pick on Sunday night, in the meantime, you can do a little investigating on your own -- she appears right under the picture of Ann on the right-hand side of the blog.

One of my book groups just read it for Wednesday night! We loved it. We spent most of the meeting re-reading our favorite letters! I highly recommend this one--truly wonderful and beautifully done. Plus, we are all dying to take a trip to Guernsey!
