Diane Rehm's new reader's review title is L.M. Montgomery's children's classic about a young girl who is sent to live with a lonely middle aged brother and sister on Prince Edward Island, Anne of Green Gables. I will now confess that while I am a lover of children's literature, I have not read Anne. I think this is because my sister was really into the books, and while that certainly didn't dissuade me from falling in love with Betsy, Tacy and co, my need to be different somehow kept me from reading Anne. We even visited the Green Gables House on Prince Edward Island on a family vacation. What can I say, I was a stubborn child. So perhaps now is the time. The discussion will take place on Diane Rehm's show on July 23rd (the day of my next show!).

FYI... iTunes has a free Podcast of the audiobook "Anne of Green Gables". Yes, I said FREE! You don't need an iPod to listen. Just a computer.

Just returned from Prince Edward Island. It's the 100th anniversary of Anne, and the island is abuzz with related items...dolls, key rings, tote bags, etc. So, what else could a respectable tourist do? We got into it! Even attended the Anne Musical in Charlottetown...great cast, and even met the writer of the musical sitting in the lobby signing autographs! Read the book and be a kid again this summer!

This is your sister speaking: Read the books!! You will love them, I promise, and you'll still be able to hang on to your own identity.

AOGG is one of those books that transports you to the time and place. I loved it and re-read it many times. I'm 51 now, and if I am ever in a house with a small upstairs bedroom with low windows and curtains blowing in the fresh breeze...and a gabled ceiling, of course!...I can't help but think of Anne.

I love Anne of Green Gables. I'm going to be re-reading it for the Classics Challenge and I can't wait. I recently finished Before Green Gables and loved it. The stories of Anne are just so endearing.

OK! I found a copy on the kids' bookshelf last night and started it.

I don't like to pick a book and say it is my "favorite", but Anne is probably somewhere at the top. I am really looking forward to the discussion! (and I am jealous of those of you who got to go to PEI)
